DESCENDANTS OF: Martin Miltenberger (b. 1801 in Germany) and Margaret ? (b. 1810 in Germany) AS RELATED TO: Robert Andrew Walker (their great-great-great-grandson)

This list begins with Martin Miltenberger. The number of periods preceding the asterisk (*) before a name indicates to which generation the person belongs. The second generation is the original John Miltenberger, father of George David Miltenberger and Anna Mary Miltenberger Wolfe, the two principal Miltenbergers in our family. The second generation is preceded by a single period. I have little information on this John Miltenberger and his wife, Dorothy Leffleman Miltenberger. I know that Miltenberger is a German name, and that the Miltenbergers originated in the United States in Pennsylvania. (I purchase surgical equipment from a Miltech Co., located in Pennsylvania and owned by Miltenbergers. Relatives, no doubt.) I know that John and Dorothy settled on top of Miltenberger (Knobly) Mountain above Wiley Ford, Mineral County, WV, and that they owned much land in Mineral County, WV, which many of their descendants still occupy. John’s and Dorothy’s children, including George David. Miltenberger and Anna Mary Miltenberger Wolfe, are preceded by two periods and then the asterisk, and belong to the third generation, etc. My generation is preceded by 5 periods and an asterisk, thus indicating we are the 6th generation to follow George Miltenberger’s father. All relationships are calculated as related to me. Add or subtract "greats" as appropriate. If an individual has had more than one spouse, the first marriage is listed first, followed by all children of that marriage, and then the second spouse is listed, and the children of that marriage are then listed, and so on. Because some are descended by separate lines through both George David. Miltenberger and Anna Mary Miltenberger Wolfe, some names will appear twice. Many, if not most, of the descendants of George and Dorothy Leffleman Miltenberger still live in the western Potomac Valley of West Virginia and Maryland.

Was a brakeman on the Western Maryland Railroad (now a part of the CSX system). Two of his grandsons (Wayne Houdersheldt and Gerald Kirk) and one of his sons (Fredrick Wolfe) continue this tradition. Settled in Wiley Ford in the mid 1930's in a house on property he bought from his father, Marquard, who in turn bought the property from his father-in-law, George Miltenberger. Suffered a weak heart, and died of a heart attack in Salisaw OK while on a trip to see his daughters Rosalie (in OK) and Helen (in AR).

Named for his mother, Elma Pauline Zimmerman Wolfe. WWII Naval Veteran, USS Cabot (CVL-28) in the Pacific. Recipient of the Purple Heart, wounded in Kamikaze attack on the Cabot. His ship was hit by a Kamikaze attack at Samar off the Philippines on November 25, 1944. Two suicide planes hit the ship, and 36 men were killed. He was thrown a large portion of the ship's length by the subsequent explosion. As a result, he lost the hearing in one of his ears. Lived in Livonia, Michigan.

Thus I estimate his date of birth to be about 1940.

At one time, according to Elma Zimmerman Wolfe, Andrew ran George Wolfe's dairy along with his brother Leo. Still living as of July 12, 1997 according to William Franklin Wolfe (great nephew of Andrew). LDS says about 1902 for birth, but William Franklin Wolfe and Helen Wolfe Walker Newman say 1905. On December 15, 2001, William Franklin Wolfe reported that Andrew had died "about two years ago," presumably somewhere in Arizona, where Andrew had settled. Henry R. Wolfe, Jr. says Andrew played lineman on the University of Arizona football team. Remained in Flagstaff, Arizona.
